Equipment Recommendations For Render 3

Tablets, Laptops, Desktops or Smartphones

Render 3 is designed to be used on any Windows machine running Windows 10, or 11. However, we cannot guarantee that all devices will run Render properly. If you want to run Render on a Mac, you can do so in a Windows partition. Although FCBH does not support running Render on a virtual machine or emulator, there are reports of it working well in that scenario.

Date updated: 9/2026

Recommended Requirements:

  • Windows OS (Render 3.0 will not work with Chrome OS or IOS)
  • AMD Ryzen 7 processor or Intel Core i7 (or higher) *
  • 16+ GBs of RAM DDR4/DDR5
  • 512+ GB hard drive (about 10GBs per project with typical scope) or larger if using the laptop for files in addition to Render
  • 1+ USB2.0 and/or USB3.0 port
  • Dedicated charging port
  • Touch screens (Render has been optimized for a touch screen interface so that less tech-savvy users are not forced to use a mouse. This is optional for tech-savvy users.)

* Please note: Snapdragon and other ARM processors are note supported at this time.

Some good example devices:

  • HP Pavilion x360 Touchscreen
  • Dell Inspiron 5000 5510
  • Lenovo Yoga-C740
  • Dell Inspiron 7386
  • HP Envy 360
  • Acer Flagship Spin Touchscreen (has not been tested, but has the proper specs)

We do not recommend:

  •  HP Elitebook computers older than G5 (does not work well with USB microphones)

Microphones

Minimum Requirements:

  • USB 2.0/3.0 connection interface
  • Noise canceling
  • Does not have Automatic Gain Control (AGC)

Other considerations:

  • Headsets allow for consistent placement of the microphone and some freedom of movement, but if the cord is hit it may add background noise
  • Tabletop or stand microphones require the translator to be four to six inches from the microphone when recording, which can restrict movement. However, with proper placement, these microphones produce superior audio quality recordings.
  • Wireless solutions allow for unimpeded performance while recording, but can cause recording glitches and they require charging. We do not recommend wireless microphones at this time.

Some good example devices:

  • Fifine AM8 or K688 USB mic—table top or on a mic stand (recommended)
  • Maono PD100X or 200X USB mic—table top or on a mic stand (recommended)
  • For India:
    • Digimore D-490—table top or on a mic stand
    • CLAW GM43—table top or on a mic stand
  • Rode NT-USB Mini mic—table top or on a mic stand
  • Blue Yeti USB mic—table top or on a mic stand
  • Logitech H390—headset mic and speakers (recommended)

We do not recommend: *

  • Logitech H540 (Windows does not allow good volume levels)
  • Sennheiser PC8 USB (picks up a lot of background noise)
  • Sennheiser SC60 Control (quality is compressed)
  • Tucci Q2 Game Headset (adds a buzzing noise when recording on any device)
  • Mpow HC6 (cord from audio jack is too short for recording; USB is low quality)
  • HyperX Cloud Stinger wired headset (3.5mm) paired with the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Play! 3 external USB sound adapter

External Speakers/Microphone

Minimum Requirements:

  • AUX port or USB connection
  • Omni-Directional Recording for community checking

Good example devices:

  • eMeet OfficeCore M0 Plus
  • Tenveo NA100B
  • Anker PowerConf S330 or S3
  • Jabra Speak2 40 or 55

Router

For synchronizing project files among project computers connected to the router. Any router with sufficient coverage for all project devices will do just fine.

Some good example devices:

  • TP-Link AC1750 WiFi Router – Archer A7
  • TP-Link AC1900 WiFi Router – Archer A9
  • TP-Link AC750 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router
  • Netgear Nighthawk
  • Most smartphones can serve as a router as well.

Setup

  • Unlike Render 2, the router does not require any custom setup
  • Unlike Render 2, LAN synchronization through the router does NOT use the USB drive.
  • For a smartphone, enable hotspot, and DISABLE cell service (to prevent web sync), and then connect the project computers to the smartphone via hotspot.

USB Flash Drive

Anything with enough storage will be sufficient.

See How To: USB Sync.

Surge Protectors

Depending on the purchased equipment, the number of outlets you will need can vary.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 1 outlet per device requiring power from an outlet
